TJ can add names, etc. to your site...he will do it, not us.
Moodle can:
Forums, Glossaries, Wikis, Assigments, Assessments, Choices (polls) Scorm/AICC Packages, Interactive databases, Interactive Lessons, Text pages, Labels, Web pages, Links to Resourced, IMX Content, surveys, Journal/blog, Workshops (students submit work, put a rubric in, teacher can have students be required to do the grading before student can submit), etc.
Blogs are locked, so students are protected. Moodle is extension of room.
Surname is last name

Be careful that what we assign can cascade down. Do not let a student be a teacher.
To CREATE A COURSE:
Course format Decide how to break up coure...by week or topic?
LAMS pre done
SCORM pre done
Social format is social oriented things
Topics format (Blogs format)
Weekly format will format weekly by date...it can be confusing
Grading program is sophisticated....would recommend not doing it at first until teacher has time to work with it.
Chameleon no....takes too long to download
Set enrollment duration set
Stay away from groups for now, again, sophisticated
Set enrollment key is case sensitive(room number is a good idea)
After you create course, assign teacher. Encourage teachers to make an account. Moodle.cliu.org
If students have an email...have them use that to have reports and news forums sent to them.
Never answer a student unless you are in your Moodle account or an account that is archived.
Wait 24 hours for an email, check junk email as well
Give teachers index cards for their name and password, in the next session they might forget their username and passwords!
Make sure everyone is force subscribed forever!!

When typing label, leave a space at top!!
Make a new window for the resource in the formatting
Do not use Messages in Administration
Make sure to backup the course. You will not need to save users, for next year. If you set it to users, potential problem with all the data. Will take too long. Recommend do not back up logs.
When teachers say their course cannot back up, check for what all they are backing up, there is probably too much.
Aides are not to be teachers, they are non-editing teachers
After backup, don't keep the files on the course site. Download and backup somewhere else!

--Open space, questions to plant to get the discussion rolling.

Real life and tech areas. Go online, incorporate tech area with business they are working with. Integrate, collect, analyze, and interpret data. Need history of the business Use everything in Algebra II. Use verbal to interpret Math Enter in TI83+. Put Power Point together and do presentation. Collect, interpret data and then predict future information.
What would happen to the Starbucks by 2010? Analyze data and see validity.
Uses Mathbits.com.
Step One: Activate TI83, will see plots and equation. Will interpret the information. This is the teaching component to the project.
NETS- Compare and analyze to see if standards are met. Prepare them and give them the edge.

Wikispaces in the Classroom
Chose Wikispaces because your site is private, requiring membership and Discussion Tab.
Ways to use Wikispaces:
• Link to articles on the web
• Can go to the Discussion and reply to teacher’s message (ie. What is the main idea of this article, do you agree or disagree with statement, etc.)
• Have students create their own posts, then go to three other posts and reply to them. Students compete to have the hightest posts. Students became creative with the titles of their posts to draw more attention
• Google Calendar to tell them what to accomplish everyday and it is embedded into the wikispaces! Helps to keep students organized.
• When running out of time, embed power point to view out of school. Students can add posts.
• After students read a non-fiction book (required in district) write about the book so others can see the reviews.
• All members can change and edit the pages. Groups researched and created a wikispace when studying Genocide. First, create KWL chart, then research and apply to stages of genocide. One problem with this – if 2 students edit in different location, work can be erased by the other by saving. To help, have students plan when they are going to be online.
• History page to show student use. Click on date, anything changed in green or deleted in red. Pages can be locked so they are not edited.
• Create a page for the final exam to study from. Quizes can be taken again to study, add podcasts for review session. Students can ask each other questions in the discussion.
• To help students keep up with current events, you can embed a link to news everyday! CNN Student News

Objectives:
Predicting, pre-reading, paraphrasing, inferencing
Develop strategies for decoding Shakespearean text.
Contribute to Discussion
ON THE WHITEBOARD:
• Sorting by characters, problems settings and outcomes. Then come up with a prediction.
• Then, to a balcony scene. Figure out what is challenging, then add modern definitions. Teacher modifies and paraphrases.
• Teacher gets another text and has students come up to add modern terminology.
• Possible online-discussion topics.
AFTERNOON
Presentation on ePals..a way to connect with classrooms around the world. FREE!! Also has blogs to use with classrooms around the world. Check out www.epals.com. They also have a chat function.
Collaboration shared by different districts.
